News from the String Department at Pinewood

The Pinewood band is as big as ever, 160 students.  All are working hard to make the concert band.  Pictures will soon be available on the Pinewood Band Web site.

GE Donates Violin and Mandolin to Pinewood String Program

Horns Reborn, a grant funded program re cently donated a violin and a mandolin to the Pinewood School String Program under the direction of Beth Putnam-Perrott. The instruments, completely refurbished and ready to play were donated to GE employees who spent evenings and weekends getting the instruments up to MENC playing specifications. Generally, the instruments have been for the band program, but this past year was an exception.The GE group made several inquiries at school in the capital district until they found one that wanted the mandolin.

Mrs. Putnam-Perrott jumped at the chance to expose her students and the audiences to a new sound and style of music. Pinewood is the only string program the area to include this special "string feature" in their orchestra. They will be using the mandolin in the upcoming WInter Concert on December 18, at 7:00 in the HS Auditorium.
The students are so grateful to the Horns Reborn Program and the employees who gave their time and effort to provide these instruments!   Thank you GE!
